Joint Internet Procurement Initiative Will Help Bring Savings to E-Businesses with Oracle Internet Procurement
17 April 2000
Oracle Corp. and Cap Gemini today announced a global initiative to deliver Oracle® Internet Procurement solutions to the global business market. The initiative was introduced earlier in the year in both the EMEA and Asia Pacific markets and is now being introduced to the United States. Oracle’s recognized experience in building e-business infrastructure and applications, and Cap Gemini’s experience in delivering e-business solutions, bring to customers a proven combination for taking full advantage of Oracle’s industry leading Internet Procurement applications.Cap Gemini, the leading global provider of management consulting services, has created three global networks to enable them to offer e-business services to the global market. Cap Gemini’s powerful Oracle Applications and Technology network has the potential to mobilize three thousand seven hundred people working with Oracle products today. The CapGemini Supply Networks Centre of Excellence has members in all Cap Gemini countries that offer their expertise to help customers maximize Supply Chain benefits. And, the newly announced Cap Gemini e-business Unit will use their e-business insight to ensure the effectiveness of these Internet procurement solutions.
“There is a potential savings of anywhere from 10% to 30% on overall procurement costs over a three year period, which immediately affects a customer’s bottom line. Many customers are already reporting that processing costs associated with procurement are down by 90% after deploying Internet procurement solutions,” said Gilles Serpry, Director in charge globally of e-Procurement, Cap Gemini.
“With their procurement expertise and over 12 years experience with Oracle solutions, Cap Gemini Group will enable their customers to benefit from these savings by deploying the Oracle Internet Procurement solution and using Cap Gemini’s IT projects and consulting experience,” said Sergio Giacoletto, Oracle senior vice president Business Solutions, EMEA. “Cap Gemini expects to deploy their solution in as little as three months, achieving real savings in customer procurement processes quickly.”
The Internet brings to procurement managers a series of new capabilities to define customers’ optimal supply strategy. The first is the ability to access online a selection of product catalogues which can reside on the seller side, on an independent marketplace, or on the buyer side. Secondly, new tools to manage the ordering process that give users direct access to selections of products from vendors catalogues, online submission of purchase requisitions and automatic processing of requisitions through authorizations and transmission to the selected vendor. Oracle Internet Procurement also gives customers the ability to consolidate suppliers, enabling them to get the best return for their procurement dollars. Additional tools like online requests for proposals, auctions and cooperative tools bring a significant added value. These tools can be used for both direct (Production related) procurement or indirect (MRO and office supplies) procurement.
Cap Gemini’s Eric Lutaud, Head of Transnational Sales and Delivery for Cap Gemini, said: “Cap Gemini and Oracle enable a company to quickly receive benefits of implementing Oracle Internet Procurement in as little as 90 days. Cap Gemini chose Oracle’s Internet Procurement solution for this global procurement initiative because of our very strong partnership with Oracle world wide and Oracle’s very strong position in the e-business marketplace.”
